{"id":528,"date":"2013-07-06T00:11:01","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T23:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/draigweb.co.uk\/draigweb\/?p=528"},"modified":"2013-07-06T00:11:01","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T23:11:01","slug":"walking-in-cader-idris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.draigweb.co.uk\/draigweb\/walking-in-cader-idris\/","title":{"rendered":"Walking in Cader Idris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Englynion-style Poems<\/p>\n<p>Englynion (plural of Englyn) are an ancient Welsh verse-form, they are typically composed of any number of short three-line stanzas.<\/p>\n<p>Walking in Cader Idris<\/p>\n<p>We started out in the dull morning,<br \/>\nGrey were the clouds over Tal-y-llyn &#8211;<br \/>\nStraight seemed the path from Minffordd.<\/p>\n<p>The c\u0175m rose, shrouded in haze &#8211;<br \/>\nA dispassionate giant,<br \/>\nHumbly we strode to its arms.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead stretched meandering paths &#8211;<br \/>\nForces of nature both seeding and fading<br \/>\nAppeared in each boulder and crevice.<\/p>\n<p>Dauntless we clambered through scree-fall<br \/>\nAcross rivers and hill-sides,<br \/>\nLike pilgrims with grim resolution.<\/p>\n<p>Untouched and untamed down the ages,<br \/>\nSave by mild grazing cattle,<br \/>\nThis landscape seems boundless and timeless.<\/p>\n<p>Hard to recall in the silence of mists,<br \/>\nUrban sounds, whir and frenzy &#8211;<br \/>\nOther-worldly it seemed and ethereal.<\/p>\n<p>The eye seems to glimpse apparitions,<br \/>\nIs Llywelyn camped awaiting the Saeson?<br \/>\nDoes Pwyll seek his companions?<\/p>\n<p>But the mists become kiosks and signage,<br \/>\nAs we leave not with memories &#8211;<br \/>\nBut with dreams wild and restless.<\/p>\n<p>Notes.<br \/>\nCader Idris &#8211; More properly Cadair Idris (the chair or seat of Idris), part of a mountainous range in North West Wales possibly named after an ancient Welsh hero.<br \/>\nMinffordd &#8211; Meaning &#8216;edge of the road&#8217;.<br \/>\nTal-y-llyn &#8211; A &#8216;llyn&#8217; or lake (&#8216;tal&#8217; signifies a lofty or high location).<br \/>\nC\u0175m &#8211; In Welsh a valley, but also a geological term for a formation in the shape of a cone with a depression in the centre.<br \/>\nLlywelyn &#8211; Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last Prince of Wales &#8211; killed in a skirmish with English forces in 1282.<br \/>\nSaeson &#8211; In Welsh, a derivative of &#8216;Saxon&#8217; specifically meaning &#8216;Englishmen&#8217;.<br \/>\nPwyll &#8211; A figure from the legendary tales &#8216;Y Mabinogi&#8217; or &#8216;The Mabinogion&#8217;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Englynion-style Poems Englynion (plural of Englyn) are an ancient Welsh verse-form, they are typically composed of any number of short three-line stanzas.
