Reading about Utopia,
\nthat edifice of Moore and Swift –
\nI wonder how they metered out
\nsuch certainties.
\nI’m sure that if I had the chance,
\nI’d conjure up Utopia
\nnot in the pages of a book
\nbut here on EARTH.<\/p>\n
Art is a fallacy, were we
\nto look closely at the painting,
\nor deep enough
\ninto some gothic pile,
\nwe’d find pure logic, or at least –
\nhow it appeared in the craftsman’s brain.<\/p>\n
Life also, the tapestry of chance –
\nconsider well the myriad fate of men,
\nsome silently toward a baleful night
\ndescend, under heaven’s watchful glare;<\/p>\n
others, a long and placid vista watch
\ntheir world rotate upon its ambient course;
\nmummers and clowns perform life’s travesties –
\na sublime mirror to reality.<\/p>\n
A siren beckons us to promised shores,
\nmore beguiling than the gorgon’s stare,
\nor twinkling diamonds in the veil of night –
\nour saviour and our bane, Utopia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
